In times of great joy, it's even more difficult.
You might be asking "Why so?", but allow me to explain...
When somebody is sad, there are all these cliche stuff you can say and get away with it.
As to whether you make the person feel better or not, at least you said something universally accepted so there's no problem.
You will never understand the pain someone else feels, so don't even for a second think you're being sincere when you tell them so.
Everyone feels sorrow, but at different levels and to different degrees. You might have been past such an event, but never try to compare yours with someone else's. It's hard enough for them already.
The Point:
- Whatever I try to say to make a person feel better will only work 25-30% and that would only last a short while too.
- Every expression of mine will be a lie, because I obviously do not feel the same pain as the person (I mean not to the same extent) -____-
- I'd rather stay away until the person naturally gets over it.
With people getting over excited and stuff, I can only smile wide and watch. There's nothing I can say that will match that kind of joy!
So well, in this case, the point is:
- Such people are happy enough that you're there to LISTEN :)
- I can't express anything in words to add to that joy.
So perhaps I was wrong about the latter being the harder one. But still, it's the most painful thing to be so overly happy and not have anyone to share it with and that is why it's just your presence that does the trick!
